Condition

Overall in very good condition. This is an assembled set and the enamel coloration and patinas show slight variations. The gilt bronze surfaces with some light rubbing, surface soiling and a few occasional minor areas of discoloration consistent with age and use. The red coloration of the enamelwork throughout the set is more saturated than it appears in the catalogue illustration. The enameled panels with some minor rubbing, and scattered surface dirt. The pair of blotter ends differ slightly from the other works in the set as they are executed in a rich brown patinated bronze. The inkstand has possibly been re-gilt at some point in the piece’s history. The clock with a few occasional discolorations and minor pitting to the reverse. Sotheby’s has not inspected the clockworks, and therefore will not guarantee their function. The desk lamp with some minor rubbing and discoloration to the standard. The favrile glass shade is in excellent condition, with a few very small and minor air bubble inclusions inherent in the making. Both the socket and finial with integral switch appear original and undisturbed. The top aperture of the shade with minor surface dirt and the lower aperture with some rubbing to the iridized decoration. The scale included in this set with slightly darker colored enamelwork, as seen in the catalogue illustration. A rare opportunity for collectors to acquire such a large assortment of items in this pattern in the rare “garnet” color palette.
