Condition
Overall in very good condition. This is an assembled set and the enamel coloration and patinas display slight variations. The gilt bronze surfaces with some light rubbing, surface soiling and a few occasional minor areas of discoloration consistent with age and use. The overall blue enamel tone is more saturated when viewed in person than it appears in the catalogue illustration. The enameled panels throughout with some minor rubbing, and scattered surface dirt. With some rubbing to the finish to the exterior of the clock element. Sotheby’s has not examined the clockworks, and therefore does not guarantee their functionality. The reverse of the bookends with minor rubbing to the surface and some concentrated spots of discoloration. The inkstand element of the set is offered with a period clear glass inkwell with a minute fleck to the interior rim. The interior lid of the ink pot and the area surrounding the inkwell with surface oxidation and discoloration in a circular pattern, measuring approximately three inches in diameter. The interior below the removable glass inkwell with some traces of surface discoloration, oxidation, and surface dirt. The desk lamp with a beautifully iridized shade showing brilliant blue and purple tones. The favrile glass shade is in excellent condition, with a few very small and minor air bubble inclusions inherent in the making. Both the socket and finial with integral switch appear original and undisturbed. The pair of candlesticks on offer in this lot appear to have been re-gilt at some point in their history. The paper rack with wear and minor loss to the patination along the top back edge, consistent with use. The reverse of the paper work with surface scratches and associated patina losses and rubbing to the patina throughout. A rare opportunity for collectors to acquire such a large assortment of items in this pattern in the rare “Azurite” color palette.
