Condition

Overall in very good condition. The favrile glass balls are all intact and appear to be original and undisturbed, displaying a well-varied range of color and iridescence. The favrile glass balls ornamenting the top of the base standard are all in very good condition with no visible damage. There are internal hairline cracks to approximately 8 of the favrile glass balls ornamenting the bottom perimeter of the base; all of these hairlines appear to be very tight and stable. With some surface soiling to the recessed contours of the balls, One ball with minor traces of old glue along the bottom perimeter presumably to stabilize it in the past. The patinated bronze surfaces display a superb deep and rich russet brown and green patina. The bronze surfaces are in beautiful condition, with a few very light surface scratches, minor surface abrasions and rubbing consistent with age and gentle use, and with some light surface soiling to some of the recessed contours of the design. The telescoping device functions smoothly. The telescoping knob, riser, socket cluster and wheel all appear original to the base and undisturbed. All four sockets and paddle switches appear to be original and undisturbed, and the sockets even retain their original cardboard insulating liners. The diameter of the outermost top edge of the wheel is 4 7/8 inches, and the diameter of the bottom lip of the wheel (which the top aperture ring of a lamp shade would be supported on) is 5 inches. A magnificent example of this exceedingly rare base design displaying strong color and iridescence to the favrile glass balls and an exceptionally rich bronze patina.
