Condition

The movement is running at the time of cataloguing and the watch has been serviced by Patek Philippe. It may require service again in the future. The case back still retains the service sticker. The dial is very attractive and has likely been cleaned by Patek Philippe. There are no visible imperfections, however the printing of the accent above the 'e' in Genève is unusual. The case is in very nice condition with a very nicely defined shape overall and strong hallmarks. The strap of this watch contains endangered species; please see Important Notices for further information.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. All dimensions in catalogue descriptions are approximate. Catalogue Note

With an Extract from the Archives confirming the date of manufacture in 1951 and subsequent sale on June 14th, 1951.

Reference 565, launched in 1938, was the first large size waterproof wristwatch. The reference was also known as the "Grande Calatrava Etanche". In 1949, the 565 was updated with the calibre 27 SC. In 1952, the reference was replaced by Ref. 2532.

The present lot is in remarkably preserved condition, and with its unmatched provenance, it presents collectors with the unique opportunity to obtain one of the finest yellow gold examples of Ref. 565 to be offered at auction to date.

This watch is amongst the last Patek Philippe watches purchased by Henry Graves, Jr.
