Condition
This painting is in a very good condition. It is unlined, and with a beautiful frame.
Under UV light, we can only mention a few repaints in the two graves in the foreground, one in the headress of the woman in the background, and one retouch near the face of the first woman.

Catalogue Note
Avec le peintre animalier Paul Jouve, Léon Cauvy fut en 1907 le premier pensionnaire de la villa Abd el-Tif. Il se fixa ensuite à Alger où il devint le directeur de l'école des Beaux-Arts, de 1909 à sa mort. Il exposa régulièrement au Salon des Peintres Orientalistes Fançais et au Salon des Artistes Orientalistes Algériens. En 1909, il exposa au Salon des Peintres Orientalistes Français sous le n°59 Mauresques au cimetière (Alger), peut-être notre tableau.
