  • 51.4 cm
raised on a foot of conforming shape, painted with birds amidst bamboo on each panel, and a six-character mark of Kangxi inscribed in a line beneath the rim.

Condition

There is a missing section to the rim, and a few small chips and frits around the rim. There is overall wear to the enamels and surface abrasion particularly to the painting around the rim, and there are firing cracks to the base of the interior.

A number of faceted jardinières with Kangxi marks have been published, with the subject matter ranging from birds and flowers, to figural, as well as pure landscapes. A jardinière with closely related decoration to the present lot and also dated to the Kangxi period is illustrated in Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colours, The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 1999, p. 104, pl. 95.
