Description

  • Frederick H. Evans
  • 'BOURGES CATHEDRAL ACROSS AISLE NAVE'
  • Platinum print
platinum print, mounted at all 4 corners to an ink and watercolor hand-ruled gray paper mount, signed and titled in pencil on the mount, framed, circa 1900 (Getty, pl. 78, variant cropping)

Provenance

Acquired by the present owner from the photographer's son, Evan Evans, 1973

Condition

This rich, finely detailed print, on matte-surface paper and mounted at the corners to a paper mount, is in generally excellent condition. Upon very close examination, the upper right print corner appears to have been creased prior to mounting. This does not in any way detract from the fine quality of this print. The mount corners are bumped, and the upper right mount corner is creased with a small loss at its tip. There is a small, isolated area of light soiling near the lower right mount edge. The reverse of the mount is darkened and there are minor abrasions. Along the upper mount edge on the reverse are adhesive remnants from previous hinges.
