Description
- Bernd and Hilla Becher
- 'WATERTOWER, RECKLINGHAUSEN, RUHR, CA. 1910'
- Gelatin silver print
ferrotyped, mounted, signed, titled, dated, and inscribed in pencil on the reverse, framed, 1967 (Water Towers, pl. 24)
Condition
This ferrotyped print is in generally excellent condition. As is frequently seen with ferrotyped prints, occasional pitting of the glossy surface is visible overall. In the lower left corner, there are various long horizontal surface scratches, likely a result of the ferrotyping process.
On the reverse of the mount, 'For Wouter Germans' is inscribed in pencil. There are graphite-colored fingerprints from handling, primarily on the reverse of the mount.
On the reverse of the frame, there are German Van Eck Gallery, New York, and 'Property of U.S. Trust' collection labels. Although these labels list the print date as 1974 and the 'Water Towers' book gives the date as 1978, the photographers have dated it '1967' on the mount.
