Description

  • Irving Penn
  • 'FASHION PHOTOGRAPH (VOGUE COVER), NEW YORK'
  • Gelatin silver print
mounted, signed, titled, dated, and annotated in ink and stamped on the reverse, 1951, printed in 1957, one in an edition of 6 (Vogue, British edition, October 1951, cover, color variant)

Condition

This early print is in generally excellent condition. Upon very close examination in high raking light, a few tiny impressions that do not break the emulsion are visible in the right portion of the image. On the reverse of the mount, the Condé Nast copyright stamp is dated '1951' and 'renewed 1979' in ink. The edition stamp indicates that there are no more than 6 signed silver prints of this image. The following notations are also written on the reverse of the mount: 'REF: 6721' and 'print made 1957 from the color transparency' in ink; and '6721' in pencil.
