Le modèle de ce coffret est d'après une boîte par Jean George, 1760-1761, conservée au musée du Louvre (Grandjean, Les tabatières du musée du Louvre, Paris, 1981, no. 116), dont les panneaux sont peints en grisaille de putti. Une autre boîte de modèle similaire, au poinçon de maître de prestige NCQ, auparavant dans la collection Garland, vendue à New York en 1910, fut vendue chez Sotheby's London, 27 Mai 2004, lot 26.
The design of the casket is based on a well-known box by Jean George of 1760/1, now in the Louvre (Grandjean, Les tabatières du musée du Louvre, Paris, 1981, no. 116), the panels painted en grisaille with putti. Another box of similar design with prestige maker’s mark NCQ, formerly in the Garland Collection, sale New York 1910, was sold, Sotheby’s London, 27 May 2004, lot 26.
