Condition
Remarkably good order for this type of box; some ingrained dirt on lacquer; some crizzling and glue stains on tortoiseshell lining and crimping to gold inner rim probably due to removal for now invisible re-attaching of formerly loose mounts.

Auguste-Gaspard Turmine accéda à la maîtrise à Paris le 26 Août 1778, parrainé par François George. En 781, il avait déjà déménagé de la rue St Martin à la rue Bourg-l'Abbé où il resta jusqu'à sa mort en 1786. Le Journal de Paris publie l'annonce de sa mort et il est décrit comme marchand orfèvre, bijoutier et tablettier.
Auguste-Gaspard Turmine became master in Paris on 26 August 1778 sponsored by François Georges. By 1781, he had moved from the rue St-Martin to the rue Bourg-l’Abbé where he remained until his death in 1786. In the death announcement in the Journal de Paris, he was described as marchand orfèvre, bijoutier et tablettier.
