The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The paint layer reads very darkly under ultraviolet light but the work has been recently restored. If the varnish were dusted slightly, the painting should probably be hung as is. It is very glossy, but what retouching may exist seems to have been very delicately applied. Despite the inability to positively identify retouches, the painting certainly seems to be in good condition. The panel has been thinned and cradled. It is flat and the paint layer is stable.
