Catalogue Note

This Marriage of the Virgin repeats the composition by Jouvenet which is in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Alençon (inv. no. 803.1.1). Schnapper lists four copies (see A Schnapper et C. Gouzzi, Jouvenet, Paris 2010, p.221-222, under cat. no. P70), none of which appear to be the present picture, though its quality and small size in relation to the original work suggests it may have been a product of the Jouvenet studio.
