Condition

Panel is cradled. there are two horizontal joins- one runs across upper portion of the painting through sky and trees and the other through the center of the composition. there is some lifting and small amount of paint loss along central join at far left and far right sides. a few other tiny losses in foreground. otherwise, the paint surface has been quite well retained and colors are fresh and strong. under ultraviolet: there are retouches along the join in sky and one at center; there appear to be some older retouches in some areas of sky. scattered retouches in figures and retouching to faces of the two figures at center. others scattered here and there in foreground and lower tree trunks. In carved and gilt wood frame with some minor nicks.
