Provenance

Gott collection, Armley House, near Leeds;
Gott Heirlooms sale, London, Christie's, 1 December 1894, lot 26, where presumably acquired by a descendant of the present owner.

Condition

Both canvases have been relined. Both paint surfaces are secure and appear to be in generally good condition under filthy, old yellowed varnishes which impede thorough inspection under UV light. Offered in matching ornate gilt wood and plaster frames win good condition but very dirty.
