Condition

STRUCTURE Both panels appear to be in good stable condition. PAINT SURFACE The first: The painting appears to be in good condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint except for some very very minor paint losses scattered in the lower left hand quadrant and evidence of an even craquelure overall in keeping with the pictures age. The second: The painting appears to be in very good condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint except for two very very minor paint losses lower centre and lower right and a very very minor indentation in the sky upper left. Otherwise there appears to be a discoloured varnish overall. ULTRAVIOLET The first: Examination under ultraviolet light reveals the presence of a discoloured varnish overall and shows some very minor scattered retouching to the craquelure in the sky and the water. The second: Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the presence of a thick discoloured varnish overall and shows one fleck of retocuhing to the aforementioned indentation in the sky but otherwise there does not appear to be any other retouching. FRAME Both held in gilt wood and plaster frames.
