Description
- Ozias Humphry, R.A.
- Portrait of Catherine (c.1716–1806), Wife of Richard Owen Cambridge
- oil on canvas, unlined
Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas is unlined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be very good condition and retains some of the original impasto in the highlights. There is one very small chip in the paint, centre left, in the background, and there is also one very small area of what appears to be discoloured old retouching, though it does not fluoresce under ultraviolet light. Otherwise the painting appears undamaged.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a discoloured and slightly opaque old varnish overall.
FRAME
Held in a carved and gilded wooden frame, with some flaking.
