Description

  • August Querfurt
  • A pair of cavalry skirmishes between turks and christians
  • a pair, both oil on canvas

Condition

Both canvases have old, firm relinings. Both paint surfaces are generally secure and appear to be in fair condition under old, very dirty discoloured varnishes. There are some small, scattered, retouched losses in both paintings and a tiny loss, visible in the catalogue illustration, centre right in the former. Other old scattered retouching work is visible to the naked eye in the foreground of both canvases. This work is confirmed under UV light but thorough examination is otherwise impeded by the aforementioned varnish. Offered in matching composite frames which are structurally sounds but with minor losses.
