Description

  • Palamedes Palamedesz., called Stevaerts
  • a cavalry skirmish
  • signed lower right: Palamedes Palamedes
  • oil on panel

Condition

The painting is cooler in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The support consists of one thick flat panel. The signed paint surface appears dirty but with no major damages. Old retouchings have discoloured and can be seen with the naked eye scattered in the sky. The varnish has discoloured and inspection under ultraviolet light reveals very few minor retouchings which cannot be seen with the naked eye. Cleaning would enhance the overall tonality. Otherwise in good condition. Offered in a later painted gold wooden frame in fair condition.
