Description

  • Carlo Manieri
  • still lifes with fruit and glass tazzas
  • a pair, both oil on canvas

Condition

The catalogue illustrations are representative. The canvases have old but effective relinings. The paint surfaces are secure if a little dirty, with the impasto still quite vibrant. The painting with peaches appears a little worn in the background with some minor discoloured retouchings. Inspection under UV light reveals some further retouchings and strenghtenings along the craqulure but the varnish impedes satisfactory inspection. Offered in modern carved wooden frames in good condition.

Catalogue Note

Another pair of still lifes by Manieri of very similar dimensions were formerly in the Lorenzelli Collection, Bergamo (see G. and U. Bocchi, Pittori di natura morta a Roma, Artisti italiani, Viadana 2005, reproduced in colour pp. 554-55, figs CM.29 and CM.30).
