Condition
The painting is slightly warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas appears to have been recently relined, restored and cleaned. A horizontal seam runs along the lower half of the canvas. To the naked eye the painting appears to be in quite good condition, particularly for a painting of this size. A craquelure in the paint surface is quite pronounced though not obtrusive. Some of the darker tones, for example the browns lower left are a little sunken. A few minor discoloured retouchings can be made out in the sky. Inspection under UV light confirms the above and points to a few other scattered retouchings. Overall in quite good condition, especially for a painting of this size. Offered in a modern black wooden frame in good condition.
