Description
- Jan Miense Molenaer
- An interior with a dwarf and a vanitas still life
- oil on panel
Provenance
With Leger, London, 1946.
Condition
The painting is a little cooler than the catalogue illustration suggests. The support consist of one flat vertical oak panel which is bevelled to the reverse along the four edges. The paint surface is a little dirty but under the glossy varnish appears to be in good condition. The still life element is still fresh, with the impasto still good. Very small minor retouchings can be made out as well as an uneven patch of 1 by 2 cm lower left which is probably old restoration. Inpsection under UV light is inconclusive due to the opaque varnish. Offered in a later carved wooden frame in good condition.
