Description
- Bernardo Canal
- Venice, a view of the Bacino di San Marco looking towards the Punta della Dogana, with the Bucintoro anchored at the edge of the Piazzetta
- oil on canvas, unframed
Condition
The colours of the original are a touch less pink than they appear in the original.
The canvas has a recent relining which has rather flattened the paint surface, which is otherwise in fair condition under an even varnish.
There is an old restored damage of 5 by 3 cm in the upper centre of the central cloud and here old retouching work is visible to the naked eye as well as along the upper margin. This work is confirmed under UV light which also reveals some minor scattered retouchings elsewhere, some more notable retouchings in the sky and three small areas of restored damage: one lower left above the standing gondolier’s head of 2 cm. squared; one in the canal below the Salute of 1 cm squared; one far right one the architecture above the Bucintoro of 3 by 1.5 cm.
Offered unframed.
