Description
- Antonio Stom
- A capriccio coastal view with elegant buildings, a bridge in the distance, and figures on loaded boats in the foreground
- oil on canvas, unframed
Condition
The tone of the original is a touch more yellow than it appears in the catalogue illustration
The canvas has a firm relining but it is rather loose on its stretcher.
The paint surface is secure and generally in good condition under an even varnish.
There is a small loss upper right in the sky, as visible in the catalogue illustration and two vertical restored damages running in from the left margin of 15 and 21 cms.
There is a significant area of repaint in the sky, visible in the catalogue illustration, and this is confirmed under UV light which also reveals retouching in the aforementioned vertical damages and minor work scattered elsewhere, particularly along the margins.
