Condition

Hinged to the mount at the upper margin. Overall in good condition. There are a few brown stains along the upper margin. The red chalk remains fresh and vibrant. Sold in an decorative gilded frame.

Catalogue Note

This Roman view was probably executed by an artist attending the French Academy.  Students had the opportunity to study Hubert Robert's drawings, and many copied his style and his approach to landscapes, especially those in red chalk.
