Catalogue Note

Though this drawing is somewhat freer and looser in style than most of the pure landscapes that are given to Jan Pynas, the technique is closely comparable to that seen in the landscape portions of several of the artist's drawings with religious subjects, notably the signed drawing of The Holy Family, formerly in the Oppenheimer Collection1, the St. Jerome in the Desert, now in the Stanford University Museum of Art,2 and the Ruth and Boaz, formerly in the Perman Collection.3  Another drawing, surely by the same hand, was sold in 2004.4
