Catalogue Note
Peasants Unloading Sacks from a Horse was drawn by Jean-François Millet during the years just before or after his move from Paris to the village of Barbizon in 1849. The work is a preparatory study for a finished composition of farmers carrying grain into a mill or a granary, one version of which has been lost since early in the 20th Century; the second version was sold in New York in the 1980s.
