This fine panel is similar to several others that Varley painted of the mountains around Kootenay Lake in southeast British Columbia. He was genuinely enthralled by the scene of lake and mountain there. By a generous use of turquoise, which he considered one of the primary colours and a spiritual colour too, he is indicating how much the scene there affected him.
