Condition
Canvas has been re-lined.
Minor dust and surface dirt to the work including a few stains to the blue pigment in the lower left quadrant and the green pigment in the lower right quadrant. There is a very faint line of craquelure near the upper edge which corresponds with the stretcher bar.
Ultraviolet light reveals a small area of fluorescence and probable retouching to the left of the darker part of the central flower composition, measuring approximately 2 by 0.5 centimetres, which further isolated flecks of fluorescence which appear to correspond to the aforementioned staining.
Housed in a thick, painted frame with a 'distressed' effect.

Catalogue Note
Lots 165-167 are part of an exceptional group of works by Alfred Wolmark being offered from the Gitl and Marton Braun Family Collection. Six further paintings depicting Jewish subjects from Wolmark's earlier period are to be sold in the British & Irish Art auction on 13th November, lots 39-49 (see catalogue for further details). The present lots are superb examples of the modernist approach Wolmark was then to adopt from 1911 onwards.
