Condition
The white work in very good overall condition, with a minor wrinkle near knees of horse. Small water staining near horse's neck.
The yellow-tinted work in very good condition, and appears brighter than in catalogue illustration. Technique in wash appears to have been made with newspaper overlay, resulting in the distinctive patterning in the wash as visible in catalogue illustration. Ink smudges near the horse's flank appear original to the work.

Catalogue Note
The current two works on paper explore one of Jamil Naqsh's three seminal motifs: the horse in motion. Much like his fascination with the female nude and the pigeon, Naqsh strives to capture the fleeting movements and nuances of the horse in motion. Naqsh has always considered his works on paper as completed works. “My pencil drawings are a complete painting,” explained the artist in a recent interview, “There is line, form and shade of light minus colour. Colour does not convey [much] for me,” (Naqsh rpt. Sibtain, "Jamil Naqsh: A Treat for Art Lovers", The Express Tribune, Karachi, May 12, 2012).
