Condition
Very good condition overall with minor surface dirt in the crevisses. Some minor scratches and wear to the patina consistent with age and handling, especially some minor wear to the backside of the left Centaure.

Catalogue Note
Les deux marbres antiques, découverts à Rome en 1736 lors des fouilles menées par Mgr Furietti à la Villa Adriana, furent des sujets très prisés. En 1765, les Centaures furent acquis par Clément XIII auprès des héritiers Furietti et placés au musée du Capitole. Les bronziers et fondeurs romains Giacomo Zoffoli (1731-1785) et Francesco Righetti (1738- 1819) réalisèrent de belles réductions en bronze de ces modèles dans la deuxième moitié du XVIIIe siècle. En effet, la liste des petits bronzes mis en vente par Giacomo Zoffoli, imprimée en 1761, mentionne "due Cintauri" vendus pour 45 zecchini.
