l'enfant assis, s'appuyant sur un crâne, tenant de la main droite une coquille et dans l'autre une paille; une draperie enveloppant son corps s'envole derrière lui.
Condition
Overall the condition of the wood is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The top of the drapery may be reattached. There is some minor stable splitting consistent with the material, including a larger split to the back of the head and to the back. A few splits have been filled including to the proper right knee. The baton in the proper left hand is loose and possibly replaced. There are also some fills to the top of the drapery at the back. The base is in good condition with minor wear.

Catalogue Note
Le thème de l'Enfant Souffleur de savon est tout à fait caractéristique de l'art flamand du XVIIIe siècle. On remarque la virtuosité de l'artiste dans le modèlé des détails, tels le crâne, la coquille, les mains et les cheveux. Le voile enveloppant son corps souligne un mouvement typiquement baroque. Pour ce sujet, l'artiste a certainement puisé sa source dans les gravures du XVIe siècle, comme celle d'Hendrick Golzius Quis evadet, réalisée en 1594 : le crâne et la paille formant les bulles de savon symbolisent la Vanité et le caractère éphémère de l'existence.
