Condition

The illustration is accurate. The plates are in good condition. Five of six plates have painted red flower decoration on the reverse. One plate has a hairline crack. The decoration of one plate is lightly more rubbed than the others; it has also chips to the foot rim, apparently due to fixation of mounts. Probably traces of metal mounts on the reverse of two other plates. General few minor chips to the rims and usual wear to the decoration.

Catalogue Note

La présence de poisson inscrit dans des réserves sur ce service lui a conféré le nom de service à décor "Pompadour" en référence au patronyme de la marquise de Pompadour, née Jeanne Antoinette Poisson. Ce service, très prisé, a été largement diffusé par la Compagnie des Indes, dont certaines pièces sont conservées au musée de la Compagnie des Indes à Port-Louis.
