Designed as a griffin that has captured a salamander, centered by a natural pearl measuring approximately 14.4 mm, set with old European and rose-cut diamonds weighing approximately 1.30 carats, accented by numerous round and cushion-cut rubies and emeralds, applied with multi-colored enamel, with French assay and maker's marks, one diamond and one ruby missing; circa 1880.

Condition

In good condition. The off-round pearl has a slightly creamy white body color, poor luster with very wrinkled skins. The colored stones are decorative in quality. The diamonds are near colorless and decorative in quality. Very minor enamel loss, visible only under magnification. Very nice detailing throughout, both to the enamel and the gold. Brooch fitting detachable to allow for wear as a pendant, with the salamander's body as the pendant loop. Indistinctly numbered 1842. Accompanied by GIA report no. 1142062496 stating that the pearl is natural, saltwater. Please note this piece dates to circa 1880.
