Description

  • platinum, jadeite, diamond
The carved and pierced jadeite tablet measuring approximately 40.5 by 25.6 by 2.2 mm depicting a bird amongst flowering vines, the frame set with numerous round and single-cut diamonds weighing approximately 2.75 carats.

Condition

In very good condition, particularly considering the age of the brooch. The jade is a deep green, with some evident black and brown mottling, semi-translucent to semi-opaque. The 96 round and single-cut diamonds are approximately H-J color, VS-SI clarity. Fitted with a pendant hook. Accompanied by GIA report no. 1142894410 stating that the jadeite jade is natural color, with no indications of impregnation. Please note that the brooch is set with round and single-cut diamonds, not just round diamonds as noted in the printed catalogue.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
