Condition
The canvas is unlined and somewhat slack in the stretcher. The picture surface is in generally good condition aside from very minor pigment separation in the more heavily painted areas. Under UV light: the red pigments fluoresce but there are no apparent inpaints visible.

Fernand Verhaegen was a Belgian painter and etcher. Known best for his works of Walloon folklore, this early still life reflects his training at the Brussels Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts.
