Condition

The canvas is not lined. UV examination reveals a fine vertical line of retouching and a further few small spots to the centre of the left edge, and a further tiny spot of retouching to the hat on the chair. There is an uneven varnish and some small flecks of paint loss to the extreme edges. There is some stable paint shrinkage in places, mainly to the area above the chair and the white cloth. Otherwise, this work is in overall good condition. colours: overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though the whites are brighter in the original.
