  • enamel, silver
  • length 10 cm
• rectangular box, each panel decorated with polychrome enamels of mountain scenes inhabited by lakes in the foreground • the top panel polychrome enamel with a pastoral setting centered by a hinged oval lid painted with a scene of a shepherd and shepherdess • the lid concealing the singing bird, the bird rises from the pierced reserve, the bird swivels, flaps its wings and moves its beak • base stamped with maker's mark EB

Condition

The enamel in generally good unmarked condition. The quality is of the standard of this time period. The bird sings and performs all of its movements, though it is slightly sluggish indicating a cleaning could be in order. Furthermore, the bird's right eye is lacking.

The present lot was formerly the property of Frances Klein, the famous Beverly Hills antique jeweler. Klein counted many of Hollywood's most famous stars among her clientele which included Elizabeth Taylor, Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra.
