Condition

The canvas is unlined. This work is in overall very good condition and retains most, if not all original detailing. A slightly dirty varnish covers the picture. A few small retouches are perceptible in the bottom of the work, otherwise there are none to speak of. With a fresh varnish the painting will be ready to hang. In a carved gilt wood frame.

Catalogue Note

Buhot is best known for his architectural views of Paris.  Numerous examples of his work can be found in the collection of the Musée Carnavalet.  He eventually became the Director of the Drawing Academy in Semur where he died in 1862.
