Condition

This painting is on its original panel which has in the past suffered from worm damage, although that seems not to be an issue at present. The bottom ledge of the panel appears to be replaced and the framing elements on the picture would likely also be modified or changed at a later date. The surface overall is somewhat compromised, and there appears to have been a general abrasion in the figure and parts of the gold ground. This has occasioned a loss of detail and glazing although the image itself still has some strength. Overall this could certainly be improved, and some of the old restorations and damages in the halo of the Virgin made better.
