Designed as a jeep waving the French flag, the flag set with numerous calibré-cut rubies, calibré-cut sapphires and round diamonds, the jeep accented with round diamonds in a star formation, the soldier accented by a single cabochon ruby, and the windshield set with mother-of-pearl, double-signed Mauboussin, numbered 3065 and 3286, with maker's mark and French assay marks.

Condition

In very good condition. The colored stones are richly saturated and lightly included. The sapphires are medium blue and the rubies are medium light slightly purplish red. The diamonds are approximately G-H color, VS clarity. The mother-of-pearl windshield is fully intact.

Catalogue Note

A brooch of similar design is illustrated in Mauboussin by Marguerite De Cerval, p. 149. Named the 'Jeep de la Libération,' this brooch was made to celebrate the liberation of France from German occupation in 1945. On the occassion of the 40th anniversary of the liberation, Mauboussin created a replica of this design to present to First Lady Nancy Reagan.
