Description

  • René Lalique
  • gold, amethyst, enamel, glass, brooch, clasp
The brooch set in the center with a French-cut rectangular-shaped amethyst, within a frame of pink, cream and white enamelled branches, accented by clusters of iridescent glass raspberries, the reverse of repoussé mirrored gold pattern, unsigned, pin fitting later added; the clasp set in the center with a sugarloaf cabochon amethyst, with a frame of pink, cream and white enamelled branches, the reverse of repoussé mirrored gold pattern, signed Lalique.

Condition

The glass rose clusters on the brooch are in very good condition, however there is very slight loss to the translucent enamel along the top “branches” below the rose cluster, the brooch mounting unsigned, and the pin fitting on the back not original, later added with traces of solder. There is also possible slight repair to the tip of the clasp (on the section without the amethyst), signed LALIQUE on the tongue of the clasp and along the bottom edge of the opposite side. The amethysts are both very clean, and a pale lavender hue. It is probable that these two segments were elements of a multi-strand necklace.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
