shaped oval, applied with gadrooned band with double-shells flanked by acanthus and leaf-tips at intervals, engraved on both sides with arms and supporters, the silver ring finials formed as overlapping leaves topped by fruit and centered by silver mounts cast with vegetables and fruit

Catalogue Note
The foliate finials and mounts match the service delivered for the Duke in 1823 by Edward Farrell, which included many pieces with densely-chased vegetables on matted grounds. Examples of the entree dishes and covers with identical finials were sold Christie's, New York, 27 October 1992, lot 231, and matching finials were added to a French supper service ordered from Henry Auguste in 1788, sold Sotheby's, New York, Property from the Collections of Lily & Edmond J. Safra, 20 October 2011, lot 836.
