Description

  • mahogany
with a outward scrolled back centred by a diaper motif enclosing a patera, the base of the back-rail with an alternating band of leaves and lappets above a rectangular padded seat on ring turned tapering front legs and sabre rear legs

Condition

In overall good condition. Joints sound and sturdy. Old very minor marks, chips and scratches commensurate with normal age and usage. Some old minor restorations to the veneer which have been well executed and hardly noticable and old very minor restorations generally. The top-rail of one has been restored.

Two Armchairs from the same suite which originally comprised, four armchairs, two side chairs and a canapĂ©, were sold Galleria, Paris, 5th December 1967, lot 75, and are illustrated P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français, Paris,1998, p. 437.

An identical pair were sold Sotheby's, Paris, from the Collection Violette de Talleyrand, Duchesse de Sagan, 18th March 2010, lot 171.

Henri Jacob received Master 1779.
