Description

of octagonal section, the baluster body rising from a wedge-shaped foot to rounded shoulders and a neck, decorated in cobalt-blue tones and a pair of Chinese blue and white jars and cover, Qing Dynasty, Kangxi Period, with another Chinese blue and white jar and cover, painted with four square-shaped panels, together with a pair of metal stags, Qing Dynasty, 19th Century and a Japanese imari dish with lobed rim, painted with shaped cartouches

Condition

The vase is in very good condition with the exception of a circa 2.5cm horizontal hairline near the base. There are minor glaze firing imperfections (such as iron-spots and burst glaze bubbles) and light scratchings to the surface. One small jar has a 1 x 1cm area of overpaint and overspray to the rim, and a circa 6cm hairline crack running vertically down one side. The base has a four-point star crack, the longest branch measuring 1.5cm. There are at least five areas of minor rim chips (largest measuring 0.5 x 0.5cm). The other small jar has a four-point star crack to the base, the longest branch measuring 3cm. The larger jar has a 3 x 4cm area of overpaint and overspray to the rim and a 0.5 x 0.5cm bump to the interior. There are minor glaze firing imperfections such as burst glaze bubbles and iron-spots One eye of a stag is missing, aside from minor chips, small dents and casting flaws, the stags are in overall good condition. The dish has an 18 x 5cm area broken off with an associated 1 x 0.5cm chip, the large broken piece now held in place with five double staples. The other side of the rim has a 0.6 x 1cm chip. There are three hairlines on the exterior at the rim, the longest measuring 4cm. The enamels are flaked in places and there is general wear to the glaze. There are glaze firing imperfections including burst glaze bubbles, firing cracks and iron spots.
