Artist's inscription:
Superfluous Words on Calligraphy. When the ancients studied calligraphy, they all received personal instruction from their teachers. Over my fifty years of studying calligraphy, I have not veered far my masters' central teachings, but I have also taken glimpses into the ancients' methods. In recent years, moreover, I have allowed myself to imitate the ancients freely. Whenever I see works that resonate with me, I combine passages from them in a single scroll. I hope to be able to receive instruction from the learned. Inscribed by Liangchang Wang Shu.
