Artist's inscription:
Amidst white clouds and red-leafed trees the water current flows, on the secluded path no people come to this place; I introduced this to a crazy old guest from South of the River, who arrived on donkey-back to view the autumn trees.
During the tenth lunar month of the guiwei year (1823), I followed the painting ideas of Songyuan Shanren (Cai Jia, ca. 1730-1782), and submit this to second elder brother Zhixian for his refined judgment. Yantian Ni Can
