Description

  • jade
the Immortal cleverly carved utilising the tones of the stone, standing wearing a loose belted robe, holding a long string of coins in his left hand which fall over his right shoulder down to the floor, up which clambers his three-legged toad, the stone of pale whitish-green tone with caramel inclusions to one side

Provenance

Sotheby's London, 31st October/1st November 1989, lot 288.

Condition

The carving is in very good condition with the exception of a small nick to the rear bottom edge of his robe, the rear base of the carving and a possible shallow flake to the bottom front edge of his robe. It should be noted that the stone is of a slightly more celadon tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
