moulded in the form of a square box on a balcony supported on a pedestal, the sides of the box carved with leafy floral sprays, the flat cover surmounted by a recumbent Buddhist lion with one paw resting on a beribboned brocade ball, covered overall with a sea-green glaze, Japanese wood box

A Japanese Private Collection.
Condition
The censer is in very good condition with the exception of some minor firing imperfections including glaze crazing, a tiny hairline firing line to one corner of rim, a loss of glaze to the tip odf the lions tail and a firt to the end of one toot of lion.
It should be noted that the glaze is of a slightly richer blue-green tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
