well-carved, the mythical bird, perched on a rockwork stand issuing blooms, reaches its elegant crested head over one shoulder while clenching a leafy bough of ripe peaches in its beak, the leaves and fruit trailing down over the finely incised long tail feathers which terminate in delicate curls, the stone of very pale celadon with some russet rivering, wood stand (2)

Provenance

Acquired from the estate of a prominent Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania philanthropist in the 1980s.

Condition

There are scattered chips and nicks. There is wear and glue and black paint residue where metal wires attach the figure to the wood stand.
